Frequently asked questions
Which color wheel is used?
Harmonies are calculated by rotating the hue in HSL space (the standard digital RGB wheel). Painters' RYB wheels place complements differently.
What is split-complementary?
The base color plus the two colors adjacent (±30°) to its complement. It offers contrast with less tension than a direct complement.
Why do some harmonies look unbalanced?
Hue rotation keeps saturation and lightness fixed, but perceived brightness varies by hue. Adjust lightness in the shades generator if needed.
